I too have been scammed by these trolls and feel totally violated and angry as hell.
I’d love to see them brought down.
I was scared to death with their first threat and letter of demand so thought it would be easier to just pay the Euro 350 and make them go away.
But 2 weeks later they came back with another letter of demand, this time for Euro 950 for further infringement because it was still somewhere on the webserver.
I scoured the webserver and deleted any copies plus I removed the backups and anything else that might give them reason to accuse me.
I was so freaked out that I thought it might be better to pay the Euro 950 but I had this feeling that they would just find more reasons to send me further letters of demand until my bank account was empty.
I found lots of information about asking them for proof of chain of rights plus someone suggested using ChatGPT to compose a dispute letter. I did, and ChatGPT wrote a fabulous, strongly worded letter. I opted for the strongest version of the letter asking for document proof of ownership or drop the case. The next day I received an email from them to say they had decided to close my case.
What bastards!!
Based on this backdown by them, I initiated a dispute with Paypal for the first payment of Euro 350. Copytrack did not contest this and Paypal refunded me the Euro 350.
So I am not out of pocket to these scammers, but it has taken it’s toll in other ways. I didn’t sleep or eat for days, totally stressed out. I focused all my attention on seeking answers online. I was tempted to hire a copyright legal firm to send a legal letter back to them which would have cost me around $2,000.
The whole experience has been absolutely horrendous and I hope someone can bring down Copytrack and Marcus Schmitt. There must be thousands of people around the world receiving these letters of demand and paying up because they are so scared.
I would love to see Copytrack brought to justice and reimburse all the innocent people they’ve scammed.
